Backworth Park
This competition scheme in Backworth, on the outskirts of Newcastle, proposed a masterplan centred around a health community. With a Rehab Centre and Health Hub at its heart, the masterplan provided extra care, assisted living, intermediate care, and multi-generation housing, forming a diverse new forward-thinking community. The competition scheme for Northumberland Estates was undertaken in collaboration with Medical Architecture and Colour Landscape Architects.
The site is bounded by a railline to the south and motorway to the west, the masterplan responded by lining the edges of the site with private or communal gardens and creating a traditional street structure centred around garden squares.
